Australian cement and lime supplier Adelaide Brighton Ltd estimates the carbon pricing scheme will hit profit by A$5m (US$5.35 million) in the first full year of operation.

The estimate is before mitigation schemes.

In light of the carbon pricing scheme and high Australian dollar, the Adelaide-based company said in a statement on Monday that it would be considering whether to import more goods rather than make them in Australia.
