Karbala cuts electric power of Lafarge plant, Iraq

Iraq’s Karbala Province’s Council has decided on Monday to cut the electric power, supplied to its cement plant run by Lafarge, stating it “must get its power by itself and to achieve an annual production capacity of 30Mt” the Chairman of the Council’s Economic Committee said.
 
“Due to the drop in the electric power, supplied for Karbala Province, the Province’s Council has decided to cut the power, supplied to the Karbala Cement Plant and transform the power for its citizens,” Tareq Gatifa al-Khikany, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
 
He said that the Plant, “steered by the French Lafarge Cement was supposed to prepare its own electric power, according to the contract it had signed.”
