Suez Cement to benefit from new onshore wind project
14 June 2011

Italgen, an energy generation arm of Italcementi, announced to build a €140m ($202.35m) onshore wind power project along the shores of the Red Sea in the Gulf El Zeit area, Egypt. The total installed capacity of the project will be 120MW.

The majority of the electricity generated from the project will be used in the production processes of Suez Cement. In November 2007, Italgen signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian minister for the energy and electricity of the project. The project is expected to save approximately 257,000t of CO2 emissions annually.
