Dangote to begin Zambia plant construction next month
09 June 2011

The construction of Dangote cement plant in Masaiti District will commence next month, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) out-going director of investment promotion and privatisation Muhabi Lungu has said.

Mr Lungu said Dangote had since identified the contractor who would be moving on site next month.
The cement plant, which is expected to be constructed within a period of three years on the Copperbelt, was among the largest investments that the company was making outside mining.

Dangote Cement, which is Nigeria’s largest cement manufacturer, will invest US$400m in a cement plant in Zambia over the next three years.

The company will be producing 1.5Mta at full production capacity by 2013.

Dangote plans to set up other plants and import terminals in countries including Cameroun, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Senegal.
