Lafarge Cement has won the British Precast’s Sustainability Champion Award for a record-breaking third year running.

The award recognises the important contribution made by Lafarge Cement to the precast concrete industry’s sustainability strategy over the last 12 months.

Judged by the British Precast Sustainability and Environment Committee, the award is granted by industry peers for Lafarge Cement’s investment and achievement in sustainability and environmental performance.

The judges highlighted Lafarge Cement’s success in lowering CO₂ emissions through investing in alternative fuels, leading the industry in composite cements, improving environmental performance and for sustainability initiatives spanning recycling, supply chain improvement and waste management.

Martin Clarke, Chief Executive of British Precast, commented: “This year the judges decided to make the Sustainability Champion award to the four short-listed Associate Members. We are delighted that this decision means that Lafarge Cement have completed a hat-trick and our congratulations to them.

“I know from personal experience that Lafarge take feedback from their customer groups as very important feedback into their own sustainability programme. Our own Sustainability and Environment Committee acted as judges so the award is doubly significant coming from a range of cement users. We now look forward to rolling our sleeves up and tackling the development of our sustainability roadmap to 2020 in coming months with Lafarge Cement and all our other suppliers and partners.”

Javed Sethi, Head of Marketing at Lafarge Cement, said: “Winning this award three years in a row is an outstanding achievement for Lafarge Cement.  We are continuously striving to improve both our own environmental performance and to help the industry do the same and it is extremely rewarding to be recognised for this by the leading industry body.
