Lafarge plans to build a cement factory in Java, industry minister MS Hidayat said yesterday.

Hidayat said Lafarge wants to build a cement factory with a capacity and investment more or less the same as its cement factory in Aceh.

Lafarge already has a new cement factory PT Semen Andalas Indonesia operating in Aceh built with an annual production capacity of 1.6Mt and investment of around US$300m.

Andalas was built to replace its old factory destroyed by tsunami several years back in the northern region of Sumatra.
