Bahrain to step up production of cement
01 June 2011

In an effort to ensure domestic demand requirements are met, more than 30,000t of cement will be available soon in Bahrain every week, according to the Industry and Commerce Ministry. The additional supplies would consist of increased local production as well as further imports.

The ministry added that it would follow up all matters related to the cement sector and was keen to keep prices at the current level.

The move was announced following a visit by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro to two of Bahrain’s cement producers – Star Cement, Hidd, and Falcon in the Hufair Industrial Area. He took stock of the situation and looked at the factories’ potential to provide cement to the local market in light of increasing demand.

Star Cement general manager Peugeot Jatargi, who briefed the minister, confirmed that the factory can currently produce 1200tpd.

Falcon CEO, Hesham Al Rayes, said his company is able to produce 1000tpd but it is planning to increase production to 4000tpd at the beginning of next year.
