Venezuelan cement sees slight recovery
23 May 2011

Venezuela’s state-owned cement companies reported a slight increase in sales during the first quarter of 2011. Within the three months under review, sales rose 1.7% to 1.7Mta.

Regarding the distribution of output, the government has established an arrangement in which Cementos Venezuela production is allocated to large infrastructure projects while cement leaving Fábrica Nacional de Cemento and Invecem is distributed to housing projects and other public works.

However, the operating environment remains difficult. Construction companies have stated that it has been difficult to obtain sufficient quantities of cement, sand and stone. Supplier companies have had difficulties with quarry equipment, access to foreign exchange for spare parts acquisition and delays in raw material extraction permits by the Ministry of Environment.
