India: ACC April sales surge, Ambuja down

India’s No. 2 cement producer, ACC Ltd , announced that April shipments rose 14.5% from a year earlier to 2.05Mt. The company, in which Holcim holds about 46%, said production in April rose to 2.05Mt from 1.79Mt a year ago. For January-April 2011 period, cement production and dispatches were 8.28Mt and 7.34Mt respectively, compared with 8.27Mt and 7.34Mt respectively in the corresponding period last year, reflecting a 13 per cent growth.

Meanwhile Ambuja Cements Ltd, India’s No 3 cement producer, announced that shipments in April fell 2.4% from a year ago to 1.86Mt. The company said production in April fell to 1.81Mt from 1.91Mt a year earlier.
