Chilean cement producer, Cementos Melon, is forecasting a positive year ahead for domestic cement sales as reconstruction efforts following last year’s earthquake become more intensive.

"While 2010 did not have the growth we had hoped, we are confident that 2011 will make a difference, thanks to the reconstruction process will take a faster pace," said company director, George Carey.

Cement demand grew at around five per cent last year but in light of the above factors the company anticipates at least 10 per cent growth.

This year, the company said it will also focus on increasing grinding production at its Ventanas plant.
