Taiwanese conglomerate Far Eastern Group is in talks with clinker and cement producer China Shanshui Cement Group Co about acquiring cement plants in China from the Chinese firm, Far Eastern President Xu Xu-dong said Wednesday.

"We are pursuing both big and small cement makers in China," Xu said in a news conference.

"Demand for cement in China will likely grow strongly in the future on the booming property market."
Far Eastern has interests in cement, shipping, chemicals telecommunications, retail and banking.
