Italcementi has decided to temporarily halt its production in Egypt for safety reasons following the civil unrest in the country, a source with knowledge of the situation said Monday.

According to Italcementi’s website the company has five cement plants as well as 20 concrete plants in Egypt and in 2009 it employed over 4550 people. Its Egyptian unit, Suez Cement has a market share of around 30%, according to the website.
