Ha Tien 1 Cement Joint Stock Company will start construction of a 2.6km road leading to Phu Huu ICT General Port in Ho Chi Minh City’s District nine next month, according to the city Department of Transport.

Bui Xuan Cuong, deputy director of the department, said in a document sent to the city government early last week that the 30m wide road connecting the port and Nguyen Duy Trinh Street in District 2 would need total capital of some VND460bn (US$23.59m).

Cuong petitioned the city government to ask District 9 to speed up site clearance so that the build-operate-transfer (BOT) project could be put into use in September this year. Ha Tien 1 Cement has proposed a 24-year toll collection for recovering the capital for the project, says the document.

The relevant departments and the road developer are completing documents for signing the final BOT contract. The road will help facilitate goods transport in the area and benefit local people, particularly those in districts 2 and 9.
