TXI Mill Creek plant wins recognition for community outreach

The Texas Industries, Inc. Mill Creek Crushed Stone Plant in Oklahoma has been recognised by the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) for outstanding efforts in community relations.

NSSGA conferred the Gold Award for Community Relations to TXI’s Mill Creek facility for 2010. The Gold Award is the highest level of recognition for this multinational award designation.

The Community Relations awards program was initiated in 1989 by NSSGA to recognise aggregate producers whose community involvement and support activities enhanced their surrounding communities in exceptional ways. Qualification for the award involves a detailed evaluation by an independent panel of professional, academic and industry specialists. The judges examine a number of key criteria, including community participation, donations and service, local and state government involvement, and plant appearance, among others, and rank how the facility performs in each category. The Gold level is reserved for the highest scoring plants, which represent the top 10% of applications.

"TXI and its employees have done an outstanding job in this critical area, despite the continuing economic challenges of this year," said NSSGA President and CEO Joy Wilson. "We are so pleased to be able to recognise these facilities whose achievements in community relations remind us of the important role the aggregates industry plays in ensuring a greater quality of life in America."

The TXI Mill Creek facility has been in operation since 2002 and is a significant employer in the community, providing stable and well-paying jobs as well as opportunities for employees to grow with the company. The Mill Creek team plays a significant role in the community through volunteering of time, service, and contributions as well as in-kind gifts to support various local organisations.
