Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for October 2010 were 7Mt. This was 14% higher than shipments in October 2009. Year-to-date shipments through October were 60.1 Mt, down slightly from those of the same period in 2009. The leading producing States (Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in descending order) shipped 41% of the October total. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, in descending order) received about 33% of October’s total shipments.

Clinker production totaled 5.7Mt in October, about 17% higher than production in October 2009. Production year to date totaled 51.6 Mt, up by about 3% from that for the same period in 2009. The leading clinker-producing States (Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, in
descending order) produced about 45% of the October total.

October 2010 imports of cement and clinker of about 658,000 t were about 9% lower than imports in October 2009. Imports for the year through October totaled 5.8Mt, down by nearly 2% from those of the same period in 2009.
