According to a statement issued by the authorities in the Chinese province of Shanxi on December 27, the 2010 targets for the elimination of elderly shaft kiln production units in Shanxi have been exceeded. Shanxi Province has dismantled all such targeted capacities in the current year, including similar polluting units n the iron and steel sector.

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the targets for the elimination of obsolete production capacities in the whole country in the current year have been achieved, covering a total of 18 industrial sectors, including steel, coke and cement, and affecting a total of 2087 domestic enterprises.
