Catalonia consumptions falls 26% in September
20 October 2010

Cement consumption in Catalonia fell 26 per cent YoY in September, compared to 2009, now registering three consecutive years of decline in the sector, Ciments Català in a statement.

The fall exceeds the average 20 per cent decline that the sector has experienced so far this year.

However, exports have increased significantly by trading 1.25Mt so far in 2010 –  "the highest level of the last 10 years."

Català Ciments has stressed, however, that this positive does not outweigh the decline of the domestic market and the industry is making "significant efforts to maintain its structure and employment."
