BUA group gets CIC excellence award

Chartered  Institute for Commerce and Industry Nigeria, CIC, has awarded BUA Group an Award of Excellence for the year 2010.

Presenting the award to the Group’s Executive Director, Alhaji Kabiru Rabiu, at its 31st National Commercial Administrators Conference which took place at Kaduna, Chairman of the occasion, and Special Adviser on Statistics and strategic Planning, Office of the Rivers State Governor, Mr Okerie Oke,  said BUA was given the award in recognition of its outstanding achievements, established record of administrative efficiency, innovative programmes, humanitarian services, quality and focused leadership.

Giving a brief history of BUA, he stated that, BUA International Limited, the parent company was set up about 21 years ago to undertake the importation and marketing of iron and steel, agricultural, Industrial chemical and other manufacturing activities.

According to him: “The company today has expanded enviably over time to include sugar refining, flour milling, port operations (as a concessionaire), cement and real estate. The company has strengthened its leadership position in the economy by its recent acquisition of Lafiaji Sugar, acquisition of stakes in Edo Cement, Sokoto Cement to boost local production of cement and sugar and also making current plans to acquire 51 per cent stake in Dicon Salt.”

The Group, he stated, while consolidating on its various achievements still continues to explore locally and International for sound pockets of investment in line with her vision of Unlocking opportunities and remaining a first class regional and international conglomerate.
