Cimentos de Moçambique expands to meet growing demand

Cimentos de Moçambique factory, located in Matola in Mozambique’s Maputo province plans to double its cement production capacity to 1Mta, as of May 2011, the chairman of the company’s executive commission, Steffen Kasa told Mozambican newspaper Notícias.



The company has just invested over US$23m in acquiring a new mill and three bagging machines in order to increase production from 500,000t to 1Mt.



“At the moment we are installing the new mill and all the heavy components are already located at the factory. We are carry out the building work, mechanical operations, as well as the necessary electric installations,” said Kasa.



According to Notícias the company believes that on conclusion of the work it will be able to respond to the Mozambique’s cement demand by 2015.

The cement factories located in Dondo, in Sofala province and in Nacala, in Nampula province are also undergoing work to increase capacity, of 240 and 120 tons, respectively, and which supply the markets of central and northern Mozambique.



Mozambican cement consumption is expected to total 1.5Mta in 2014, taking into consideration several construction projects outlined by the Government and the private sector. In 2018 the country’s cement requirements is estimated at 1.8Mta.
