The local units of Cemex Asia Pte, Ltd. yesterday formally launched two "eco-friendly" cement brands promising to cut carbon emissions by a third.

Apo Masonry Cement and the Rizal Masonry Cement, better known as Apo Green and Rizal Green, will only be sold in the Philippine market, Cemex officials said.

"To produce them, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 32%," Darwin DJ. Mariano, public affairs director of Cemex Philippines, said in an interview.

Apo Green was first sold in the market in October last year, a year after Rizal Green. Apo Green and Rizal Green, which are sold in 36kg bags, are priced P7.00 lower than similar products in the market, executives said.

"The Philippine market has a lot of potential for growth and we are positive in the outlook of the country in the next three to five years," Jaime Ruiz de Haro, president of Cemex Asia, said in an interview.

Cemex has two integrated cement plants in Naga, Cebu and Antipolo. Cemex Philippines produces Apo Cement, Island Cement, Cemex White, Cemex Marine, Cemex Palitada King, Rizal Super and Apo Premium.
