Lafarge to build plant in Uzbekistan

Lafarge will build a cement plant with a capacity of 2Mta in the Jizak region (central Uzbekistan), according to the Uzstroymaterialy Joint Stock Company, the project’s customer.

Lafarge and Uzstroymaterialy have signed an agreement of intent on joint construction of the plant. By the end of this year, the French company should submit the results of examination of the project and solve the issue of financing the plants construction.

The Uzbek side has already approved a preliminary feasibility study for the project, which is estimated to cost US$250m.

According to the Uzstroymaterialy, three cement plants with a total annual capacity of 2.36Mt of cement and worth approximately US$290m are being constructed in Uzbekistan.
