24 June 2010

The Holcim Group confirmed it is to start building a cement plant in Tuban, East Java, with an investment of US$450m in October.

Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland, Djoko Susilo, informed the confirmation was made after he met with Holcim’s board of directors in Bern last week.

"They will start construction in October. I asked them to met with informal figures in Tuban and East Java, such as the prominent religious scholar or ulema in Langitan, Abdullah Faqih, to make the construction smoother," Djoko said when welcoming the visit of four Indonesian journalists at the State House in Bern on Monday.

Previously, in March Maret, PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk stated it would seek an external financing of more than US$100m to fund the construction of a factory in Tuban, East Java.

"We are still waiting for the decision of Holcim headquarters office to continue with the cement factory construction. With the new factory, we target to bolster cement production by 1.7Mt after the plant starts operation."
