USA: Hercules Cement Co. employees remain on the picket line
22 June 2010

Union employees at the Hercules Cement Co in Stockertown are entering their second week on the picket line. Teamster Local 773 Chief Steward Tim Groller said there has been no contact with company officials since they started striking June 14.

The workers are striking over language in their contract that would allow the company to move workers into different roles at the plant at any time for any amount of time, Groller said.

Plant Manager Richard Zimmel said the transfer clause is used to fill employee vacancies. Groller said morale among the 82-member union seems to be high. "It seems like they are in it," Groller said.

Last week, the company was running some of the plant’s operations using its 34 salaried employees, Zimmel said.
