Vietnam: Cement consumption falls as building slows
11 June 2010

Vietnam consumed 19.67Mt of cement in the first five months of the year, 39 per cent of the annual target, according to the Ministry of Construction.

In May, the volume reached 4.3Mt, a decrease of 14.2 per cent compared to the previous month.

The ministry explained that rising steel prices were to blame for the drop in construction work.

According to the ministry, the country’s demand for cement is estimated at about 50Mt in 2010, an increase of 11 per cent over 2009. - VNS
