The proposed setting up of a cement plant at Khatwari, 5km from the main town, allegedly in violation of rules, has given rise to widespread protests in the Sundernagar valley of this district.

The company setting up the proposed plant has succeeded in obtaining the NOC for the proposed plant at Khatwari on the fertile agricultural land which has sparked off bitter opposition from the farmers. 

The environmentalists are also up in arms against the proposed plant which they apprehend would cause large scale environmental degradation and great health hazards to the dense human settlements around it, wildlife and vegetations.
