Cementos Argos has expressed its solidarity with the people of Haiti, saying the company has taken immediate action to attend the basic necessities of the people and families linked to its subsidiary Cementerie Nationale SEM (CINA)

The cement plant, located 25km from the capital Port-au-Prince, does not appear to have suffered any structural damage. It has an installed cement capacity of 600,000tpa. Colombia-based Cementos Argos has been a shareholder in the unit since 1999 with a 65 per cent share. The remainder is the hands of the Haitian state.

Meanwhile, Cemex is responding to this humanitarian emergency by collaborating in relief efforts with the governments of Mexico and other countries, international institutions, and social organizations.

Cemex has 115 employees in Haiti, working at three maritime terminals and a commercial representation office. Cemex has knowledge that its employees are safe. A rapid response effort to provide humanitarian aid to employees, their families, and neighbouring communities has been launched. To this end, the first delivery of basic goods has been completed, and a second one is underway.
