Pakistan prices see gradual rebound
18 January 2010

Cement prices in Pakistan have started to rebound gradually and are up by Rs10-15 (US$0.12-0.18) per bag from two weeks ago.

A 50kg cement bag is currently available in the band of Rs250-260 in the Northern region and Rs290-300 in the Southern region of the country.

With the rising demand, cement prices are now increasing as expected, JS Research reported on Wednesday.

Cement industry officials say that decline in exports and a price war between cement companies had resulted in the decline in prices.

But they were confident that cement demand is expected to increase in the next few months with the rise in construction activities.

Data of All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association shows an increase of 18 per cent in cement exports, down from 79.9 per cent increase in the same period (Jul-Oct) fiscal year 2009 (FY09).

On local front, local cement dispatches increased by 12.9 per cent in the period from Jul-Oct FY10 compared with the decline of 14.2 per cent in Jul-Oct FY09.
