Vietnam Firm to operate 2Mta cement plant in early 2010

Ha Tien 1 Cement Joint Stock Company (HT1) plans to run trial on Binh Phuoc cement plant, one of the largest of its kind in Vietnam, in December and operate it in early 2010.

The plant has a total investment of VND4.8 trillion (US$268.49m) and an annual capacity of 2Mt of cement, the Voice of Vietnam Radio said late last week.

Once operated, the facility located in Thanh Luong commune, Binh Long district is expected partly to ease the current cement shortage in southern Vietnam.

Southern Vietnam is forecast to lack between 12Mt and 12.5Mt of cement in 2009, which needs to be transported from the north as the south’s supply capacity now stands at only 5.5Mt.
