The Mejia grinding unit of has started commercial production with a capacity to produce 1Mta. At present, the unit is producing at a commercially viable level and further scaling up will happen over the next few months.

A spokesman of the company said that the plant has started production in a limited way since March this year and began supplying to clients. “Though we had started production in a limited way since March this year, we couldn’t really operate at full capacity due to manpower requirements.

With the completion of that process around mid- September, we are gradually scaling up production,” the official said.

The company has invested Rs 300 crore to set up the plant in Mejia in Bankura district in the state. The plant is producing fly ash-based PPC cement.

“From this plant we will primarily cater to the demands of the West Bengal market. We will also cater to the Jharkhand and Bihar market as required. Lafarge is the co-market leader in the region,” the official said.
