St. Mary’s Cement files quarry application in SEL
06 November 2009

St. Mary’s Cement Inc. is planning to develop a quarry on a 60.1ha site north of the Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Landfill Site.

The company has scheduled a public information session at the Neils Pind Room (in the Lakefield-Smith Commmunity Centre) for 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, at which details of the operation will be explained.

The address of the property is Part Lots 20 and 21, Concession 8.

Before it can proceed, the project will require an Official Plan amendment from Peterborough County, and a Zoning Bylaw amendment from the township.

SEL Manager of Building and Planning Rob Lamarre said he expected the matter to come before township council on December 8.

St. Mary’s is applying to take up to 500,000 tonnes of aggregate from the site annually.

Objections to the quarry licence must be filed with the Ministry of Natural Resources by December 17.

There will be a later deadline for objections to the Official Plan and Zoning amendments.
