Cement Australia has launched a new 140tph cement mill at its Gladstone facility.

The new mill, the construction of which began in 2007, will double the facility’s existing capacity ensuring security of supply of high quality, locally-manufactured cement to supply central and northern Queensland.

Cement Australia chief executive officer Chris Leon said the new mill will produce 900,000t of quality, locally-manufactured cement.

“The new mill will ensure that all of our cement supplied to the central and northern Queensland region is locally-manufactured using local resources and labour” Mr Leon said.

He added that the new mill will ensure that during Gladstone’s next boom, the region will not be caught short of cement, which had occurred two years ago when there had been a flurry of construction.
