Australian building materials group Boral Ltd said on Wednesday market conditions in the first half of this year remained difficult, and it was keeping a lid on production to match weak demand.

Outgoing Chief Executive Rod Pearse said there were signs of a housing-led recovery in Australia in the second half of the year, but the picture was not as bright for non-dwelling approvals, which slumped in the second half of last year.
