Hanson & Hawaiian Rock partnership, Guam

Hanson & Hawaiian Rock partnership, Guam
08 October 2009

Hanson Permanente Cement of Guam and Hawaiian Rock Products have formed a strategic alliance for Micronesia.

Hanson Cement, the largest cement supplier in Micronesia, and Hawaiian Rock, the largest ready-mix concrete, aggregate and asphalt paving company in Micronesia, have formed this new alliance to ensure an ample availability of high quality cement and concrete products for Guam and Saipan during the regional military build-up and other anticipated construction projects.

Both companies are in the process of significantly expanding their operations. Hanson Cement will expand cement import capability, cement storage and bulk truck loading capabilities, while Hawaiian Rock is increasing its ready-mix concrete and quarry operations with additional aggregate production plants, ready-mix plants and mixer trucks.

Hanson Cement will then have the ability to supply over 500,000 metric tons of cement per year and Hawaiian Rock’s capacity will increase to over 1 million cubic yards of concrete per year.

This will allow both companies to adequately supply any increases in demand for cement and concrete currently forecasted for Guam and Saipan. Hanson Cement and Hawaiian Rock each recently celebrated their 50th anniversaries of doing business on Guam.

Hanson Cement is a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement AG, while Hawaiian Rock is a subsidiary of MCC Development Corporation, which is joint company of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan. (PR)
