Claudius Peters commissions Holcim silo, Italy
28 July 2009

Commissioning of a new cement silo for bulk loading has just been undertaken at Holcim’s Merone cement plant in Italy.

The equipment, which comprises silo feeding, fluidization, discharge and bulk loading, was supplied by Claudius Peters’ Italiana operation based in Bergamo, near Milan.

Claudius Peters undertook the entire project including the process solution, arrangement and installation drawings as well as the outline drawings for the civil works executed by the client.

The silo has a14 m internal diameter and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for silo fluidization known as the EC (Expansion Chamber). Such technology has been successfully installed in more than 130 recent installations worldwide.

Below the silo two loading lanes, each equipped with two mobile loaders of the VME type, they will give an overall instantaneous bulk loading capacity of up to 800 tonnes per hour, thus increasing considerably the cement dispatch capacity of the plant.

The contract also included a complete de-dusting facility for the new silo designed with four hopper type filters, each dedicated to a loader, and a bunker filter for silo venting.

This latest installation demonstrates the fruitful co-operation forged over the years between Claudius Peters and the globally operating Holcim.
