Albania approves construction of plants worth over EUR1bn
27 July 2009

Albania has approved urban planning studies that open the way for the construction of new cement plants totaling more than EUR1bn.

The Territory Adjustment Council (TACRA) chaired by Prime Minister Sali Berisha approved the studies, the cabinet (www.km.gov.al) said in a statement.

Domestic demand for cement and construction materials is rising due to infrastructure projects, Berisha noted.

He called for an open study on the new plants to be carried out with environmental groups, a precedent set in construction of a thermal power station in Vlore.

Albania currently has two operating cement plants.
