Egypt hopes to increase cement supplies

Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry are taking new measures to increase the supply of cement in the Egyptian market, the ministry said in an emailed statement.

The measures include facilitating procedures for cement importing and regulating the market prices, said the statement.

The General Authority for Monitoring Imports and Exports said 150,000t entered Egypt between April and June 8, 2009.

During this period 120,000t of Turkish cement entered Egypt, said the statement.

The ministry of trade and industries have intensified crackdowns on the companies that produce, distribute, and sell cement, said the ministry in the statement.

The statement also said that 1165t of cement were confiscated for violating the market fix prices.
