According to local press reports, Hanson Cement could be shedding 57 jobs from its Padeswood facility in North Wales.

Formerly named Castle Cement, the firm has already stripped jobs from the factory near Buckley where 183 people once worked.

Last night, Flintshire councillor and member of a liaison committee between Hanson and the community, Ron Hampson, said 57 employees have been handed letters telling them they will be out of work in 90 days.

He said there will only be 46 members of staff left at the site despite promises that there would be secure work for 110 employees.

A former employee of 15 years himself, Cllr Hampson said: "Yesterday, 57 people were given their 90-day notice leaving 46 people at the site.

"Everyone has been told there is only enough work to keep the firm going for just three months in 2010 because they are being undercut by another UK company.
