Cement output in India increased 11.6 per cent in May this year, indicating robust demand from the construction industry, whose growth was halted by the credit crisis last year.    

Official data showed that the six core infrastructure industries expanded by 2.8 per cent in May 2009 against 3.1 per cent in the same month last year.    

Cement output, which is the barometer for construction industry expansion, led the performance, followed by coal (10.2 per cent) and electricity (3.3 per cent).
