Polish cement sales up in May
26 June 2009

Sales of cement rose in May for the first time in several months, Puls Biznesu reported, based on figures from the Polish Cement Association (SPC).

SPC representatives believe that the upturn is a result of an increase in infrastructure investments. If this trend continues in the coming months sales of cement will be similar to last year’s levels. Admittedly, the developer market is still in recession, but consumption of the material is increasing among individual investors – sales of bagged cement amounted to 509,400t in May 2009, which translates into a jump of 16.1 per cent compared with the corresponding month of 2008.

SPC estimates that in 2009 as a whole cement sales will reach 16.5Mt ie fractionally less than in the previous year, when sales equalled 16.8Mt.
