The Indian cement industry continued a robust performance accompanied by increased off take from the real estate sector, which has witnessed fresh spell of demand in recent times.

The cement industry has posted an average growth of 11% since November 2008 primarily on account of strong demand from rural as well as low-cost urban housing. Additionally there was an increased demand due to pre election spend for infrastructure projects.

The industry witnessed a rise of 13.1% (YoY) in dispatches at 16.65 million tonnes. The cumulative dispatch growth of cement majors including ACC Ltd, Ambuja Cements Ltd, Grasim Industries Ltd & Ultratech Cement Ltd stood at 13.87% (YoY).
