Hannibal’s Continental Cement recalls workers

Hannibal’s Continental Cement recalls workers
27 March 2009

Growing demand has led Continental Cement of Hannibal to recall about half of the workers it laid off in February.

Workers will return based upon seniority starting Monday. Grinding operations and maintenance work will resume.

A company spokesman said warmer weather has created a demand for more cement as the construction business picks up.

Continental hopes to return to full operations by May.

The company blamed the economic downturn when it laid off 71 workers last month. Fifty-seven cement workers and 14 employees of Green American Recycling were affected.
