Cement consumption in Spain dropped by 49% YoY to 4.33Mt in the first two months of 2009, the Spanish cement makers association Oficemen announced.

In February alone, cement demand in Spain was down by 46% on the year, lower than the 52% annual decline registered in January which was also an all-time high.

Cement consumption in Spain dropped by 23.8% YoY to 42.65Mt in 2008, its highest annual decline.

Exports of cement grew by 80.5% to 348,000t in the two months, while imports went down by 70.7% to 616,000t.

Cement output in Spain totalled 4.22Mt in January to February 2009, down 47% in annual terms.
