Continental Cement extending yearly shut down, US

Continental Cement extending yearly shut down, US
16 March 2009

Continental Cement employs more than 150 people, but as of Monday, only about half of them will remain at the plant.

A slow down in the construction industry has left the company with more cement in storage than it can sell right now, so Continental is extending its yearly "shut down" and laying off more than 70 workers.

The workers who will remain will carry out routine maintenance and repair on machinery, vehicles and the property.

Continental hopes to be able to re-hire all its laid off employees in about 7 to 8 weeks.
