10 March 2009

Cement sales in Brazil fell 3.2% in February compared with the same month last year, to 3.571 million tons according to figures Monday from the National Cement Industry Association (Snic), according to Agência Estado.

Cement sales are an important indicator of economic growth, especially as the government has prioritized homebuilding and infrastructure as ways of combating the global economic crisis.

Over January-February there was a 2.4% reduction on the same period in 2008 to 7.508 million tons.

In the 12 months through February there were 50.894 million tons sold, up 10.6% on the previous 12 months.
