Indonesia’s cement production in December fell 39 per cent to 1.91Mt from 3.13Mt in the previous month, an official of the Industry Ministry said.

Downstream Chemical Industry Director Tony Tanduk said weak sales and large unsold stock from the previous month forced producers to slow down in December.

Sales on the domestic market totaled only 3.06Mt in December down from 3.26Mt in November, and exports also fell to 123,000t from 151,000t.

The country’s cement factories operated only at 50 per cent of their installed capacity on the average in December, the newspaper Investor Daily said.

However, Urip Timuryono, chairman of the cement association said the decline in December did not reflect annual performance.
