Brazil’s domestic cement sales rose 14.6% January-November compared with the same period last year to 47.138Mt, according to figures Friday from the National Cement Industry Association (Snic).

Construction is a major employer in Brazil and is expected to make an important contribution to GDP growth in 2009.

In November, cement sales grew 4.7% compared with the same month last year and 0.7% compared with October 2008.

Over the 12 months through November sales grew 14.3% to 50.7Mt.
