The cement factory in Nuevitas, eastern Cuba, has resumed production after being damaged by Hurricane Ike.

Brigades of skilled workers repaired the damage on pipes and roofs, thus creating conditions to resume cement production.

Factory executives said the plant is working 12-14-hour shifts to meet the growing domestic demand for cement.
