A further 14 workers at Castle Cement in Ketton have been told their jobs are "at risk", it has been revealed today.

Last week the factory announced it had informed 35 people they face the prospect of redundancy after launching a 30-day consultation period. The firm blamed the credit crunch for creating a declining demand for cement.

But it has since been revealed 49 members of staff in Ketton are actually in danger of losing their jobs, taking on board another 14 distribution workers which were not previously mentioned in the announcement.

There are 360 people employed at the Ketton site, which dates back to the 1920s. Castle Cement has pledged to hold talks with the Transport and General Workers’ Union.
