Star Cement is setting up a new production unit in Ras Al Khaimah at a cost of US$150m. The new plant will start operations by the end of the year.

"It will be an integrated plant with a production capacity of two million tonnes and will add to the existing capacity of 3.5Mt," said director Hameed Salahuddin. "We are pushing ourselves in the direction of manufacturing," Salahuddin said.

Star Cement will also invest $15m and increase its production in Bahrain in an effort to minimise the impact of acute cement shortage.
