Prices of ordinary Portland cement reached CNY 321/t, inching up 1.9% from the previous month. Those of Portland slag cement reached CNY 369/t, 3.07%; and those of compound Portland cement, CNY 302/t, 4.5%.
 
Soaring coal prices, which account for 20%-plus of cement’s production cost, are believed to be the major driver for the cement markup. On June 30, prices of Shanxi Datong bituminous coal (5,800 Kcal/kg) reached around CNY 560 a ton, soaring about CNY 140 a ton from May-end.
